About Me

I’m Samantha Niblett, an experienced Derbyshire campaigner brought into Labour activism by the hope that a fairer society is possible. A society where no child goes hungry, where we all have access to the building blocks of a good life, where technological growth and innovation is harnessed for the betterment of all people - not for socialised losses and privatised profits.

I am also a woman in tech. Having spent most of my career in data and technology, I have seen first-hand just how few women there are in tech. We make up just 26% of its workforce and are under-represented across STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths) industries. That isn’t fair on girls and women, and means our country is less prosperous. So I decided to do something about it and in October 2022 I founded Labour: Women in Tech. I built a small team and in Spring 2023 decided to commit to it full-time. In the first few months I forged relationships with our Shadow Cabinet members, trade unions, social enterprises, businesses, educators, and activists, to work in partnership to make a plan to get more girls and women into STEM careers.

It is the right thing to do and makes economic sense. When I see opportunities for radical change, I am never happier than forging alliances at any level to get it done.

I promise to do the same in South Derbyshire.

As an activist, I always seek to understand people and then work to make change. I’m never content just talking about problems, I find ways to solve them.

That’s the type of person I am, and the type of MP I aspire to be.
